Day 26 Flower (again)

This one is done in cross-stitch and has been accomplished over a number of days... complete with french knots and fraying, a first for me :-D

Day 25 Fuzzy

All fuzzy and soft... today's bookmark is knitted :-)

Day 24 Coffee Cow

This should be a cow print! I started with white paper but I didn't want it so white. So I coloured it using coffee. It gets stained and you can still see a blotch on the lower right... ooopps!!

Day 23 The Park

It's easy to see where today's inspiration came from. Today we had some decent weather and health, so we ran off to the park. It had been a month since we'd been last, between cold Winter weather and being ill.

It's simply lovely seeing my son enjoying himself... me not very good at drawing. I definitely need more practice ;-)

Day 22 Swirls

I remember doing this at school when I was young. So I thought I would reapply it here.

See you and take care x

Day 21 Zig Zag

A very very quick bookmark!

Day 20 Cosmetic flower

Had some make-up that I wasn't sure if it was safe to use anymore, so I decided to apply it to paper after I pencilled a flower design. Result was not as expected and I figured only later that it might stain the book pages! Oh, well I tried...

Day 19 Warmth

Maybe some of you thought I would be posting something realted to a fire or at least a fireplace ;-) This pattern is known as Argyle. It is featured in clothing especially warm wool sweaters and socks.

Day 18 Spots everywhere

This was inspire by the work of Damien Hirst.

Day 17 ABC

This is probably inspired from too many ABC rhymes I'm listening to with my son ;-)

Monday 16 January 2012

Day 16 Useful numbers

Today's would be a double-sided bookmark. I have included useful telephone numbers for services in Malta (where I live) and neighbour island Gozo.

There is also space to include personal numbers.

Take care x

Day 15 Dark & Light

Lao Tzu was a Chinese philosopher who said "Without darkness there can be no light."

Day 14 Simple

A very simple and quick one. I tried drawing something but I'm terribly out of practice...

Take care x

Day 13 Favourite tea

When I used to travel by bus regularly, I used to read quite a lot too. And sometimes 'bookmarks' even included bus tickets.

The bookmark I'm showing today is made out of a herbal tea box. It is one of my favourite flavours - raspberry & echinacea :-)

But really I also used this since paper or card can get costly, and after all bookmarks can be made from a lot of various things.

Day 12 Ribbons

Today's not actually a paper or card bookmark. It is made out of ribbons. I used 3 differently coloured ones. They would look lovely if they were colour coordinated to a specific book's cover!

These ribbon bookmarks are commonly found in diaries, cookbooks and the Bible. I guess they will be helpful in some fantastic 1000-or-more books that include a character list, a family tree and maps related to the story.

Take care lovelies x

Day 11 A feather in a stitch

This was done using 'prick and stitch' where a pattern is pricked into paper with a needle and then stitching is applied. I added a feather to fill in the empty part.

See ya!

Day 10 julie's sunshine shorties

Today I prepared some biscuits and decided to do a recipe bookmark. They are tasty and very easy to make. I chose this recipe since I ran out of eggs and couldn't go out shopping.

I like preparing my own biscuits, so that I can adjust ingredients and include or remove according to taste or dietary requirements.

The recipe was from 'the pink cookbook' (ISBN:9780600617150) with some of the proceeds going to Breast Cancer Care. I bought it a while ago and sincerely never cooked anything from it. I always say not to buy any more cookbooks, but after all this was for a good cause :-) I think cookbooks are the most widely available books and nowadays it seems that whoever knows how to boil an egg, writes a cookbook!

The fun part is that the little member of the family loves these biscuits too :-D

p.s
I added some cinnamon and substituted some of the sugar with dried fruit and cranberries. I also used black treacle instead of golden syrup - maybe that's why they turned out more bronzed... lol!

Day 9 Outline sticker cut-out

Day 8 Paper cutting

The technique used today is known as scherenschnitte or paper-cutting. The design has been cut from folded paper to reproduce a mirror image. It is sometimes better to do the cutting using fine-tip scissors rather than a craft knife.

Today's bookmark is also a giant bookmark and is larger than the size stated by The American Bookmark Association that is not to exceed 2.78 inches (7.1cms) wide by 6.47 inches (16.4cms) long.

Day 7 Stamp

The images were stamped with the same ink. Then on the scroll like designs I put some fine glitter while the ink was still wet!

Friday 6 January 2012

Day 6 Star bright

Day 5 Flower Power

Today's bookmark is rather simple to make. There are a lot of fancy paper available, with different textures and colours. Today I'm using a patterned one, a scrap from a larger sheet I used on another project.

I also punched out some flowers and added some glue.

Thursday 5 January 2012

note

Just a small note. I still have my son running about, 20 minutes to midnight, so I’ll have to skip tonight’s bookmark with a promise of a double dose tomorrow!

See ya x

Wednesday 4 January 2012

Day 4 Psalm 23:1-6

A terribly confusing day... which ultimately helped me clear out a lot of cleaning and organizing! Cleaning in these situations help me to be more focused in the end, and that ultimately THIS TOO SHALL PASS. We're in GOD hands and I firmly believe it.

The verse in this bookmark is one of my favourites, and I constantly need GOD as my shepherd to get me through especially hard times and decisions.

GOD bless you all xxx

Day 3 Outline Stickers

Outline stickers are a very handy and creative way to embellish and decorate different surfaces including paper, candles, metal and glass. They are available in a wide range of designs, colours and effects!

After you remove the outline sticker from the backing sheet, the so-called ‘negative patterns’ remain behind on the sheet. For removing the negative patterns which remain behind on the sheet I used a piece of sticky sheet, applied it to the bookmark and lifted the sticky sheet back.

I was able to peel the sticky sheet back since it was not so sticky. If you use some kind of tape, you might need to cut and trim round the shape to get a cleaner finish and a nicer result.

I finished the bookmark by applying a couple of 'positive' designs in the middle.

This is my first bookmark in a series of 366, one for each day of this year 2012.

Best wishes x
