Day 60 Leap leap

Well this day comes once every four years.

It reminds me of the movie Leap Year

Rating: PG · Genre: Comedy · Run time: 1 hrs 37 min

Synopsis: A woman (Amy Adams) heads to Ireland in order to force her boyfriend (Adam Scott) to accept her wedding proposal by scheduling it on leap day, the only time when he couldn't refuse due to the country's tradition in this Spyglass Entertainment romantic comedy. Shopgirl's Anand Tucker directs from a script by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan. Matthew Goode co-stars as a handsome innkeeper who throws a wrench into the woman's plans.

...oh and the stamp post was on a letter from the Inland Revenue with a check for the Tax rebate of when I returned to work after having my son; an incentive to return to work! Nuff said.

Day 59 Comes with the packet!

This was included in a pack of cereal snacks ages ago, and today found the time to do it.

It is an Italian product and the use of boxes (not lines as we're used to) is very typical even in copybooks!

Day 58 Cous cous

It all started with a seasoned pack of cous cous... and something the little one liked. That makes it all worth it :-)

Added avocado, tomatoes, cheese and olives!

Day 57 Sweet tooth

I have a particular sweet tooth, apart from when I was pregnant. I used to long for more wholesome and salty items rather than sweet. Today after work I longed for some pastries of some kind, maybe downed with a cappuccino. But decided to call it off. Hubby is on a stringent healthy lifechange and it's no fun to indulge alone in sugary concoctions!

Day 56 Tulip

a mixture of paper and felt

Day 55 Burnt at the edges

To control this I prepare a saucer with some water and put the paper in when I'm happy with the burnt result. Then I leave the paper to dry. Blowing can cause the paper to burn some more rather than go off.

Day 54 Something Fishy

Good weather is on its way, and looking at the sea I just feel the urge to swim...

This is done the same way like this

note

Hello everyone,

I hope you're having a good weekend.

I will post soon. The weather has been beautiful these past 2 days and spent it outside with my son, exploring playing fields and enjoying the sun!

See you soon :-)

Day 53 Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday, in the calendar of Western Christianity, is the first day of Lent and occurs 46 days before Easter. It is a moveable fast, falling on a different date each year because it is dependent on the date of Easter. It can occur as early as February 4 or as late as March 10.

According to the canonical gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, Jesus spent 40 days fasting in the desert before the beginning of his public ministry, during which he endured temptation by Satan. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of this 40-day liturgical period of prayer and fasting.

Ash Wednesday derives its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of adherents as a sign of mourning and repentance to God. The ashes used are typically gathered after the palms from the previous year's Palm Sunday are burned.

At Masses and services of worship on this day, ashes are imposed on the foreheads of the faithful (or on the tonsure spots, in the case of some clergy). The priest, minister, or in some cases officiating layperson, marks the forehead of each participant with black ashes in the sign of the cross, which the worshipper traditionally retains until it wears off. The act echoes the ancient Near Eastern tradition of throwing ashes over one's head to signify repentance before God (as related in the Bible). The priest or minister says one or both of the following when applying the ashes:

Remember that thou art dust, and to dust thou shalt return.

Genesis 3:19

Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel.

Mark 1:15

Day 52 Shrove Tuesday

In most traditions the day is known for the eating of pancakes before the start of Lent. Pancakes are eaten as they are made out of the main foods available, sugar, fat, flour and eggs, whose consumption was traditionally restricted during the ritual fasting associated with Lent. (from)

I got this recipe from the blueberries pack. If you want the thin crepe-like pancakes, I guess you would have to substitute self-raising flour with plain, and omit the baking powder.

Day 51 Carnival

This is a rough sketch of the costume I sewed for my son. Well at least the costume turned better than this depiction :-)

I wanted to print this one out and actually attach the feathers to it, but I ran out of printer ink, so here it is! I got the template from:

Day 50 Foam & Ribbon

Not much to say. The ribbon is a piece of bias-binding. Yet again these can be done from any scrap material around. I will have to try it out with metal, plastic and wood; maybe be able to upcycle something ;-)

Day 49 -cross

... completed in cross-stitch from Day 48.

Day 48 Half-and

Another cross-stitch piece... shown in half stitches only, as I didn't manage to finish it all!

Tapestry is actually worked in half stitches only.

Day 47 A few stitches

I remember, a few years back, that we used to stitch on paper to get used to the sewing machine. It was helpful to do it on a lined paper and in this way to adapt to getting straighter lines when actually sewing on fabric.

Day 46 Keys to go

My son is 21 months young today and it's today's inspiration.

In the UK one is considered to be adult at the age of 18. However, before 1970 this 'age of majority', as it was called, was 21. In other words, one became an adult on one's twenty-first birthday.Frequently a celebration cake would be made to mark the occasion and this cake would often have a key as a decoration, symbolising the key to adulthood. Birthday cards were similarly decorated.

Day 45 My heart

Simple one to make. The paper was decorated with heart motifs and I just applied a heart stamp randomly across it... easy peasy :-)

Day 44 Haphazard

When I was very much younger I used to spend Summer learning to crochet and knit. We were taught how by a lovely lady who was very patient and resourceful.

Even if I don't do them frequently I sometimes feel that once you learn them, it's hard to forget them - just like riding the bike! I need plenty of practice and experience to get a neater job. I still smile when I see this bookmark, and afterall it's what this is about... to be creative and have fun :-)

Day 43 Ribbons all around

I enjoyed doing the prick and stitch some weeks ago, and this time I decided to try it with ribbon instead of thread. The ribbon had to be very narrow (3mm) for it to be able to pass through a needle's eye. I worked on foam (I keep thinking it's felt) as it's more resistant than paper and gives a nice texture. Fewer needle points were needed here, than when working with thread.

Day 38 Forecast

Today I decided to do a bookmark dedicated to weather forecast.

It is a particularly cold day. I got this forecast from Accuweather and I love how it's says rain is on its way :-) Another good site is Windfinder.

Wish you all a safe trip if you're on the roads and a dry arrival x

Day 37 Happy Birthday

Guess this explains it all...

... best wishes to friends who celebrate this day with me xxxxx

Day 36 Thaumatrope

A thaumatrope or 'wonder turner' is a toy that was popular in Victorian times. A disk or card with a picture on each side is attached to two pieces of string. When the strings are twirled quickly between the fingers the two pictures appear to combine into a single image due to persistence of vision.

I was inspired by the movie Sleepy Hollow where one of these is featured. I also remember having a key chain when I was younger.

See how it is made.

Day 35 Made-up

This is done using cosmetics... just trying it out. I only wish I could capture the sparkle in the photo some more :-)

Friday 3 February 2012

Day 34 Wrought iron

Inspired from a wrought iron gate I saw yesterday on my way to work.

The gate was much nicer ;-)

Day 33 Scribbling around

I forgot how relaxing it is to doodle. This was done on a water-coloured paper.

Day 32 Black cloud

clear rain.

Still terrible at drawing... oopppsssss!

Day 31 Primary & Secondary

... colours!

Day 30 Blackwork

Done this from a small piece of Aida fabric and simpler than I anticipated :0)

Day 29 Cut and paste

Day 28 Fishbone

A fish bone inspired by something I'm working on at work...

note

I've been away from the blog, but still continued to do bookmarks everyday. I have restarted work and have to adapt being an efficient working mum!

All things fall in a routine eventually...

... and the days I've been away, I return and find 2 followers :-) A really pleasant thing and very grateful for it.

Regards lovelies x

Day 27 Woof woof!

A man's best friend... this was easy to do. I just found a picture of a dog, printed 2 copies, cut them and applied glue on the upper part. It slides between pages.
